Choosing a modulator

Start with the source connection. The two-channel unit takes component video, which suits older sources with component outputs. The encoder and QAM modulator models handle HD sources at 1080i, and the single-HDMI model connects directly to an HDMI source. Then count channels: the single-input models add one channel to the system, while the two-input models add two from one unit, which saves rack space when a project carries several sources.

The modulator output is combined with any antenna or other feeds at the headend, then passed through the distribution amplifier and splitters to the outlets. Plan channel assignments so the new channels do not land on frequencies already in use on the coax.
